Its been just two years since Apple has added the AirPrint printing function to iOS 4.2, and during its launch,  AirPrint was only compatible with a few HP printers. At the time of arrival of AirPrint, it has brought two options to the frontline i.e.

You can print from an iPhone, and choices were inadequate—AirPrint, if the printer supported your phone, you are considered to be lucky, and selection of 3rdparty apps, most of the apps required Mac on your wireless network.

A max change has come in the interim.

Nowadays, a wider range of printers support AirPrint, and printer manufacturers are interested to release their own, developed, fully-featured printing apps for iPhone and 3rdparty print apps are improved in their functionality and in range of printers they support with iPhone.

How to Print From Your iPhone

Though most of the iPhone printing app requires your iPhone to be on the same wireless network, some of the printers have their own email IDs and it will automatically print documents and the attachments you will email to them, from anywhere no matter in which part of the world you are.

Use An App:

It’s a mobile device, so this can be the easiest and best way to print from your iPhone, which is, to use an appropriate app particularly if you don’t have an AirPrint option enabled printer.

There are quite a few iPhone printing apps available that will allow us to print easily from your device.  Basically, you have 2 choices like using a free app for your specific brand of printer or getting an all-in-one solution, pay a little amount on it.

An easy way to print from iPhone is provided that a compatible printer on your wireless network has an option for AirPrint, built with recent versions of Apple iOS.

iPhone’s recent models starting with 3GS are having the AirPrint option enabled and in many branded printers like Brother, Dell, Canon,  HP, Ricoh, Lexmark, and Samsung which are now compatible with AirPrint.

The AirPrint printing function is the same, no matter which model of iPhone you have with you. It will work with all the iPhones and other Apple products as well.

With the AirPrint option, you can print documents from Apple programs such as Photos, iPhoto, Safari, and Mail, as well as many 3rdparty apps.

If you open a document in such a program, you can access the share button through the icon which is at the top or bottom of the screen.

This should reveal the print option. Press Print and then the printer options screen will appear. Click on select printer and now the app will search for AirPrint compatible printers on your wireless network.

AirPrint Troubleshooting:

Your iPhone should automatically detect AirPrint, if the printer is turned on and if wireless is enabled. If it is not detecting, make sure that the 2 devices are actually connected on the same Wi-Fi network. (There is a possibility of multiple accessible networks available in an office setting.)

And also, for some AirPrint printers, you should enable the AirPrint option before you can use it, regularly through the setup menu in the printer. (If you still have questions on this you can check the printer’s user manual)

If this option doesn’t work, please restart the printer and make sure that the firmware of the printer is up to date as required. If you still facing the same issue, you need to contact the printer manufacturer or you may need to check with the relevant Apple Support Community Forums.

AirPrint In Action:

It’s a decidedly no-frills operation to print from AirPrint. It will let to use the number of copies of the print, duplex printing but with little else, so you have to do any alteration of print setup through the printer.

But be sure that you’ve loaded the correct type of paper in the printer for your job to be done and have enabled the correct settings for paper type & printout quality through the printer drivers or software interface.

AirPrint Through Mac:

Even if the printer available is not compatible with AirPrint, if you have Mac on your wireless network, you can install a utility such as Printopia which will let you print through it from AirPrint.

If you install Printopia on available Mac, it will automatically identify all the printers on your available network.

Your device should recognize it as well, and you have an additional option “Send to Mac” which will send PDF or JPEG files to your Mac, and if you are having DropBox installed on your device, select “Send to DropBox on Mac.” Or else printing is the same as it is directly in AirPrint.

Printing Through iPhone Print Apps:

We have a wide range of print apps that are available in-store to enable people for printing from your devices and other iOS devices. Most of the printer manufacturers had released apps so that you can at least print from your device through that manufacturer’s recent wireless printers.

iPhone and printer must be on the same wireless network. If the printer is compatible with the device, the app will readily detect it on the network.

These apps are free and more fully-featured than the AirPrint option and in addition to having a greater range of print options, some apps can scan as well as print. If the printer is compatible with the brand’s app, it is good, worth downloading, and giving it a try.

3rdparty apps like PrintJinni frequently support a wider range of printers, though you generally have to pay to use them. We positively reviewed the free PrintJinni app for Epson, a more universal PrintJinni app support with varieties of printers from most major brand manufacturers.

Printing Via Email:

These days most of the new HP & Epson printers are having another option to print from their device, they can send commands directly to take a  printout to the printer from anywhere in the world through just one single email.

The functionality of Epson email print and the email printing in HP ePrint works in the same way.

In each and every case, when this function is enabled, the printer itself is assigned with an email ID, which you can change the address more to your liking.

With that, you can now send emails from your iPhone (or any smart device, personal computer, or any other device with an email client) to a printer and it will automatically print the email and any attachments enclosed to it.

All the available Epson Expression & WorkForce Pro printers AWA most newer WorkForce models are compatible with the Epson Email Print option.

Most recent HP printers are also working with HP ePrint (which unfortunately has the same name as HP’s mobile printing apps.
